'It affects my personal life': Longer hours cost small business owners
By Doug Dingwall and Iris Zhao

Small business owners are trying to ride out tough conditions by closing earlier, working longer hours — or in some cases giving up days off altogether.

ABC News · Small business owners are working harder than ever to ride out tough conditions — at a personal costBy Doug Dingwall

"...the stock market crisis of 1929 came from structural imbalances in the nation that created a weak economy in which about 5% of the country received about one third of the nation’s income. What really jumps out today is that, in contrast to 1929, the national economy is strong—or was just a month ago. In fact, before Trump took office, it was the strongest of any economically developed country in the world."

Letters from an American · March 13, 2025By Heather Cox Richardson

For decades, New Yorkers knew that Trump and the Trump family f..ked everybody over, stiffing everyone they dealt with from contractors to lawyers.

So why would anybody think he’s unwilling to continue doing the same with American businesses and allies?

#Unpopular position:

I'm as frustrated as anybody else about #Democrats' inability or unwillingness so far to put up real #resistance to the reich-wing agenda. Perhaps more so: my wife works with refugees; every day her clients are being screwed and her colleagues fired.

I'm not sure that Schumer is wrong, though, to decide this isn't the hill we die on. Maybe and maybe not, but it's a little funny to say he "folded" or call him a "coward" when he had to know how unpopular his move would be with his own constituents.

Maybe Schumer was right, maybe wrong. But I think we have to look at the #consequences of a government #shutdown and decide if they would promote or damage our goals. Schumer clearly believes the latter, and he isn't an idiot.

That said: whether this was the hill to die on or not, there are issues worth fighting for, and it's taking waaaaaay too long for Congressional Dems to do so.
