Why or why not?</strong></p><p>In the niche that I wrote, I have read some amazing work, fully worthy in texture and content, of being conventionally published but for the encumbering IP. One I nevertheless nominated for an Otherwise Award (<a href="https://otherwiseaward.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">otherwiseaward.org/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a>), which is for <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/gender" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gender</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/fiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fiction</span></a>. I read original work more and more these days.</p><p>As for writing, there was a time for me to write fan fiction. I needed it to rehabilitate myself, to get used to writing stories with out all the bad feelings that accompanies having burnt out as a professional author. It also served as a sandbox where I could practice and later perfect writing in 1st person. I had known in my heart (and one of the reasons I burnt out) that I could not write 3rd person as well as I needed to, that 3rd person lacked the ability to snark (a.k.a, be opinionated as a narrator and observer of humanity) which many of my characters needed to be able to do.</p><p>I prefer writing original work now. It's me. I'm fully responsible for my ideas, world, and characters—it's freedom. </p><p>[Author retains copyright (c)2025 R.S.]</p><p><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/BoostingIsSharing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BoostingIsSharing</span></a></p><p><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/gender" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gender</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/fiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fiction</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/writer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>writer</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/author" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>author</span></a><br>I've written <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/Fanfiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fanfiction</span></a> but now write <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/fantasy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fantasy</span></a> and <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/sf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sf</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/sff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sff</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/sciencefiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sciencefiction</span></a><br><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/writing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>writing</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/writingcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>writingcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/writersOfMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>writersOfMastodon</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/writers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>writers</span></a><br><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/RSdiscussion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RSdiscussion</span></a></p>
