One really weird thing about #DnD is that you can multiclass but not multisubclass. I get that its for game balance reasons, and I love how much #ttrpg freedom you get from multi classing, but its still weird. In the real world learning a second speciality within your field is typically much easier than learning an entirely new field!

DnD 5e and Minecraft have the same problem. Instead of a set of solid elements that interact and produce emergent behavior, they have big piles of random extremely situational elements, so you end up memorizing a ton of little rules instead composable, reusable principles.

LRT: made me think about the fact that, although I think there's a lot of things about #DnD that I don't like in terms of good game design, I am more interested in playing #TTRPGs than I am in debating good game design. I'll put up with #DnD5E, if it means playing versus not playing.

Hasbro has not been a great steward of the hobby. They would be smart to spin-off WotC into a design studio, and make D&D licensed goods.
