SewBlueBeadwork! Right shoulder is done! Every bead was hand stitched.I decided that simplicity in the bugle beads is best to show off the leaves. Was also closer to what I've seen on period garments for this style. Sini TuuliaThe sleeve lining goes on the cuff in the simplest imaginable way: Make sure it's the right length to the cuff edge, just put the whole jacket on and flail arms about to make sure it doesn't pull. Trim lining, push it back a distance according to taste so that it's slightly long in there and won't rip the first time you put the jacket on a bit aggressively or bend your arm, or peek out... Turn a hem, stitch it down. I was taught long ago, but I've forgotten the specifics and would not describe it well.The reason I ask is that cheap clothes are usually much harder to mend. KentuckyConjurerI'm looking for a good pattern for a chemise. Any of my seamstress friends have one they like? Fabric will be linen. End result something along these lines. I can adjust the sleeve length and curve myself if I can find a good pattern for the body. Basically, I now have The Fear, and it's all but stopping me doing anything.So I'm making myself tick along, cutting out a couple of pieces at a time, and just looking at the current task - cut *this* piece, sew *that* seam - and not the big picture. Like a long walk when you just look at your feet, knowing sooner or later you'll look up and be amazed at how far you've come.What's the worst that can happen? The dress turns out to be rubbish or not fit, I wear something else. Hardly a disaster.

Karen ConlinGranddaughter brought her 4-H sewing projects for me to see. Her first attempt at quilting was a hot pad/pot holder. She did better than I could. Nice sharp corners, seams lined up neatly. She and the others will be submitting pieces to the state fair this summer.
