FibroJediI'm also progressing NJ's surprise wand. I've smoothed it and now I've treated it with Linseed oil to bring out the natural colours of the wood that were hidden by it being so dry. Once the oil has dried, I can seal it. Alfred Chow - Maker of ThingsThe sort of make that should only take a couple of hours has been several days in the making.The Yew wood scales on my 'Swiss Army Knife' style key fold broke after seven years of service and abuse. I made a quick pair in Beech to replace them, and then sourced a bit of Laburnum to make nice ones.They were hand cut from the centre of a branch crotch to get the feather figure in the grain, with a tiny bit of sap wood at the end.I hand cut the branch down the pith to split into two, and then hand cut a slice off each half to book match the figure on each scale.It is a shame you never see both sides now it is assembled. <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/Making" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Making</a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/Woodwork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Woodwork</a>
