This morning, in a short session in the shop, I got two more sticks turned round. So far, they’re all fairly straight grain, so this should be a very sturdy chair. Two more sticks to go, and all of the round pieces of wood will be round, and I’ll need to start drawing things on the chair-seat to figure out the angles and lengths for the joinery.

It ain’t going fast, but it’s going. #WoodWorking

Considering a tool that I designed for my own use (a razor slide paper cutter) and went "Huh, this can't be used by the left-handed" before going "But I", dramatic Westley flourish "am not left-handed!"

This means that I have spent too much time watching The Princess bride*.

*I don't believe "too much time watching The Princess Bride" exists

Gaaah, what did I get myself into here with this 46 kg monstrosity…?! I can hardly lift it myself. This will be interesting to get through the bandsaw.

I really gotta learn to say no to such things 🫣 But it's one nice long cherry log…
(Oops, did I say one? I meant three – the other ones are hiding out of frame. Luckily they're a bit lighter!)

I've been avoiding acquiring 'stuff' for a while, particularly for the #workshop, but I decided to bid on half a dozen items in a local #auction, for things I know I'd certainly use in my #woodworking and never-ending home reno chores.

One can never have too many clamps, drill bits, nor router bits, so I'm taking a shot at some of those with low bids that'll probably fail.

Will announce my haul later!

I am clumsily constructing a new step, primarily of wood and epoxy. So far mostly wood. Yellow pine 2-by-6 and scraps of black ash. There are Japanese wooden nails you can see if I turn it over. I will partially fill the spaces between the boards with epoxy (having sealed the ends with UV resin) and reinforce the whole bottom with epoxy. Then I will turn it over and put on layers of epoxy.

I use Nicpro epoxy. The same chemical formula is available from an increasing number of other brands. It has fabulous properties, among which is that it degasses without a hitch in a vacuum chamber.

I generally do not use coating epoxies. They bubble fiercely. If I have a mold or for some light coating jobs I may use Superclear Liquid Glass. But even the 24-hour formula does not harden until near the end, and isn't as good at heated curing as is the Nicpro.
