Taking the backhoe out for a constitutional.

"Morning!"

"Good naked! I mean morning!"

Captain, stop trying to enforce your primitive ideas of modesty on this woman.

Love theme for Theremin and Spooky Whistle <3

YOU SHOT THE CAT

YOU SON OF A BITCH

I appreciate that the captain isn't trying to force his attentions, but he is kind of Victorian.

The time has come for clarification! I'll strain the broth, you get the gelatin ready.

...So the Altarians were squat pyramids?

...Wait, so Altarians were featured on It Conquered the World

"I've come here every day for two decades."

And yet, I still cannot build an Interocitor.

See, the thing about expository lore-building is you have to have something actually interesting to talk about. A lot of movies fall flat simply because they don't have anything worth talking about.

Oh, so the Krell died when they exploded into orange Tang.

WELCOME

TO THE MAGRATHEAN FACTORY FLOOR

And here's where we power the Death Star's shields from... Ignore Alec Guiness in the robe there.

And here's where we store the neon honeycomb...

Oo, laser fence, nice :D

Cook's about to get men killed for booze.

Rob, don't take to the camera, it's unprofessional.

Wait, NOW it leaves footprints??

Oh, Morbius has judged mankind and found it wanting. Well, fine, we'll just abandon the greatest scientific inventory ever found because Doctor Beardy doesn't like how popular rap music is.

"It's started again."

Yep, people have started contracting Exploding Torso Disease again. I told them the pandemic wasn't over.

Well, the Waffle Guns are active and ready. Bring on the Maple Syrup Men.

Now THAT'S a monster :D

DODGE ROLL, YOU IDIOTS, DODGE THE CLAW STRIKES AND PUNISH THE TAIL SWEEP, have you people never seen a Rathalos before!?

...Wait, was that "gilt-edged" or "guilt-edged"? :/

...Darling? DARLING???

OH, oh wait, hold up, sorry. This is their third scene together. Never mind. They're in love now. Carry on.

Hey, I played bass for Monsters From the Id in college.

HOW ROMANTIC! The fool, the meddling idiot! And other things said by people who DEFINITELY aren't villains!

Morbius, Morbius, you've been Morbin' in your sleep, doctor

"She's joined herself to me, body and soul!"

Three scenes, Morbius! We're inseparable now!

"We're all monsters in our subconscious, so we have laws and religion!"

Ooooo, man, I cannot tell you how those things do not help :x

Oh man, that's a great effect with the monster punching through the door :D

Ooo, has Morbius finally accepted his shadow self? Get him an Evoker, see if he's got a Persona!

C'mon over here, honey, let's watch your home blow up. How romantic.

Yeah yeah, as though a million souls cried out at once and then were silenced. Lunch?

Cactuar Joe

The end! Yeah, so nobody in the 50s knew how to write a believable romance, huh?

But yeah, that was fun! You can see what *literally every sci fi movie made for four decades after* was chasing, huh.

Shower thoughts about Forbidden Planet:

Y'know, I think that might've been the first 1950s movie we've seen in a LONG time where the monster was NOT Communism.

Also, I'm a little annoyed the opening narration *specifically says* "Men AND women in rocket ships" and then gives us an all-male crew :/

Anyway I'm headcanoning Cookie as an egg just to shore up the numbers, anybody with me?

(ironically this STILL does not result in a Bechdel pass >_>)

@CactuarJoe To be fair, Alta was on the ship for the trip back to Earth…

@CactuarJoe My biggest shower thought is that there was coffee, but no one was smoking. (A sign of the it being set in the future?)

Also interesting to see the brief time period where flying saucer meant future tech rather than aliens.

@CactuarJoe The Krell didn't understand id, and 50s Hollywood didn't understand superego.

@CactuarJoe Nobody in the 50s had ever experienced believable romance.

At least none of the script writers

@CactuarJoe looked like a believable 50s romance to me
