Question for tech people!
When I want to link directly to a mobile version of Google #Translate + include the phrase to be translated ("frase") + automatic language detection + target language EN, I do:
https://translate.google.com/m?sl=auto&tl=en&q=frase
Does anyone know how to do that same thing for #DeepL?
→ Turkey’s translators are training the AI tools that will replace them

“The trends are global. In November, the Netherlands’ largest publisher announced it would use AI to translate certain books, with humans only involved in light edits. In the UK, over a third of 12,500 translators said they have lost work to machines.”

Parlez-vous français?
That's about where my French knowledge ends
Anyone out there who would like to translate the app to French? Let me know and I'll shoot you an invite to Crowdin
I want to #translate some educational videos for my kids to understand.
Given the immense amount of #AI sites that claim to do perfect dubbing with lip syncing etc, it must be something that's "easy" to do (otherwise there wouldn't be so many sites claiming to do it, my logic goes)
Is there a self-hosted solution (voice/audio translate is enough) that I could try running locally, with models available for "smaller" European languages (not just German/French/Spanish/Italian)?
This is SO COOL and SO VALUABLE.
I’m using the Translate API now in PDX Transit to let users be able to translate #Trimet Service Alerts into their language. By default, it offers from the languages they’ve added to their device in Settings. For me, it offered Spanish.
It uses local ML Models to translate upon pressing the Translate button. Check it out!
It is not easy to accidently turn on Translate in Mastodon. You have to go a layer deep in settings, to set your posting language to the language your mastodon app uses.
It doesn't say it's to turn on "offering to translate" - click here.
It doesn't announce you turned on translate for your readers, your posts.
Mastodon should have an obvious button, "TURN ON Translate" or some such, in a platonic way.
Kagi Translate evolves!
Recent updates:
It's now localized into 20 new languages.
The settings panel lets you customize translations and add context effortlessly.
A history panel to view past translations.
Buttons now grouped for easier navigation.

Fellow FR>EN translators, you know how, in Quebec, the French word "Plusieurs" generally means “many” rather than “several”? (You _do_ know this, right?!)
Well, I just had a client question my use of "several” to #translate “quelques.”
That the average francophone Quebecer now thinks “several" means “many” is a sign of how often bad/inexperienced English translators (or machines) are blindly translating “plusieurs" as "several" in contexts when it actually means "many”!
#Meta’s new #AI model can #translate speech from more than 100 languages
#MachineLearning is bringing us closer to a Babel-fish-style universal #translation device.

Can anyone corroborate this? At least on mindly.social in the advanced web view over the last week or so, when I click a Translate link for a post, I get "503 Remote data could not be fetched" instead of translated text. It had been working for me prior. This is on Safari on a Mac on the latest beta.
