The #nixos configs will be #opensource, so anyone can deploy their own similar #fediverse instance. Really easily. I mean Nix just lets you fart these things out. The database snapshots are pulled off #ipfs, and I do run a few IPFS nodes to keep things persistent. The tailscale bits, are a little more complex. My headscale network is not ready for production...yet. So it is reliant on #tailscale to a point. But I'm pretty proud @screwtape pep talks do wonders for a man's confidence.

We all love some mayhem when it comes to playing games. And nothing makes car games more satisfying than damage models. RockStar Games understood it early on, and all GTA games have breakable cars. Today some of the most popular car games like BeamNG.drive holding on a realism of damage mod...

If you want to support #opensource firmware for #BambuLab printers, the #X1Plus team says the best way is to buy an X1Plus Expander on Crowdsupply: crowdsupply.com/accelerated-te

It “plugs into your X1 between the AP board and the chamber-monitoring camera. It hosts a Microchip LAN9514 that operates as a USB hub, a 100-megabit Ethernet controller, and a Raspberry Pi RP2040 to handle GPIO controls”

I’m pretty excited about the prospect of hardwired Ethernet!

One feature I'm curious to try on GNOME is Digital Wellbeing (which I use on Android, and it helps me a lot).

For those who don't know what it is, Digital Wellbeing is a system for limiting activity (like reminding you to do movement or look away from the screen after many hours), reminding you to take breaks, and seeing how many hours you spend on the computer.

It's now in the GNOME settings on 48.alpha.

A crucial smartphone app is a good map.

Organic Maps has been my go to map for the last few months - a pretty good alternative to the OS bundled spyware map.

A few UX quibbles or feature sacrifices you might have to be willing to make, but in my mind at least, totally worth the tradeoffs

So, uh, that #Microsoft #Windows update that bricks their entire line of #MR #VirtualReality headsets on windows is now mandatory, which completely kills the last shreds of Microsoft's #VR stuff on windows. Right now seems a *PERFECT* opportunity to note that those same headsets *WORK IN #LINUX*. You can use monado stack to get them working with OpenXR. So yes, *MICROSOFT'S HARDWARE* is bricked on *MICROSOFT'S OS* but works in *LINUX* thanks to #OPENSOURCE. Fuck #microsoft!
