@ben Stack Overflow has already been monetizing your answers with ads for years. If “used for profit” is your main complaint, you’re a little late.
@mighty_orbot @ben @mighty_orbot @ben The argument isn't about profit, which is pretty clearly outlined. OpenAI's explicit and ultimate intent is to replace people and in the meantime it's spitting out garbage information.

And their software is laundering the original source of the information from which their AI training data was derived. Doesn't the original author deserve some credit for when ChatGPT regurgitates a lossy paraphrasing of a post scraped from the Internet?
@andrewfelix @mighty_orbot @ben And there are other bad actors too, that use stuff from the internet. This is inevitable once the stuff is public. What makes AI (or even specific players in AI) special?
@fpbhb @mighty_orbot @ben AI is the peak. 50% of internet traffic is already bots, most new resource articles are gibberish and forums are largely dead. Stack Overflow is a community based resource. Users have a shared interest in answering questions and are rewarded for accuracy. AI's only purpose is subvert the usefulness of human beings, it kills creativity and community.
@fpbhb @andrewfelix @mighty_orbot @ben The fact that AS vendors are getting cooperation from corps in a way that the typical spammer does not..
@mighty_orbot @ben plagiarizing someone's work to train an LLM is different that displaying that work with an ad I can block next to it
