Gestern kam meine neue Lektüre an: Teil 1 (1956 - 1964) der Kurzgeschichten von JG Ballard.
Dieser Autor steht schon lange auf meiner Wunschliste, da seine phantastischen Geschichten zahlreiche Bands in New Wave und Post-Punk inspiriert hatten. Offensichtlich wird das z.B. bei The Normal, John Foxx, Joy Division, Gary Numan, The Human League. Aber auch der Pop-Song "Video killed the radio star" bezieht sich auf eine dieser Kurzgeschichten.
Mit diesem englischen Buch habe ich zum ersten Mal bei "buch7.de" statt Amazon bestellt. Es war nur wenige Cent teurer, dafür fließt ein Teil des Erlöses aber in soziale Projekte in Deutschland. Die Abwicklung lief auch reibungslos und schnell, so dass ich dort in Zukunft bevorzugt bestellen werde.

Mr. Meeble, “Cultivation of the Imagination” from “Never Trust The Chinese,” 2008
Mr. Meeble is a mysterious (to me) group from Phoenix who only put out this one album, a maxi-single and a couple of self-released digital-only EPs but all 3 members seem to have stopped putting out music shortly after, and one has since died.
But the music! Most of their stuff is tuneful sort of #Electro-#TripHop but this track is more sparse, reminiscent of synth-fueled #PostPunk before it went #NewWave #synthpop (US) or full-on dance funk (UK) - and it’s pretty cool!
