Labour is supposed to stand for working- and middle-class people. Yet Rachel Reeves is refusing to tax the rich, while targeting ordinary households instead.

This is not “caution” or “centrism” – it is a betrayal.

Why support a party that protects the rich at your expense?

Vox Political · Workplace battleground: Labour and Tories at war over employmentBy Mike Sivier

"Young people who have been out of a job or education for 18 months will be offered a guaranteed paid work placement"

18 months is a long time to be out of work. And how do they just magic up a "paid work placement" anyway?

Or is that why they have to wait so long, because they know that they can't magic one up for more than a handful of people?

Either way, not sure it sounds actually useful.

@ChrisMayLA6 In government-speak "efficiency" = cuts.

Successive administrations have for decades used this lie in a vain attempt to balance their books. Do they really think that after all these years there are *still* savings to be made? No, but services can still be made more 'efficient' by being cut.

It s remarkable just how many people around #starmer spent time at the #Resolutionfoundation - officially non-partisan and with a #conservative former minister - #davidwilletts - as its chair. #torstenbell , #minoucheshafik , #vidhyaalakeson are obvious examples but I must confess to having encountered #rachelreeves at a meeting organised by it a few years back. My impression was that they were particularly concerned at working age poverty and ready to increase tax if necessary!

“It is genuinely difficult to suspend one’s disbelief enough to be able to believe that the current economic position can be a surprise to Starmer. He must have known that what he was promising in the run-up to the election – an election he was always going to win – didn’t add up. And if he didn’t, he and his chancellor are even more incompetent than they have so far come across.”

Sadly the parasite class will just pass the tax onto their renters, fucking over the Young once more. It seems to be all Rachel Reeves can do, make us suffer? That income should be taxed, but the pain will come from people like me, not people like them.
