#Fallout3

One of the unexpected benefits of getting my Steam Deck is that I've been able to jump back into Fallout 3 for the first time in years.

Fallout 3 genuinely changed my perception on what video games could be, so it's amazing to be back. It looks and runs amazingly!

Playing Fallout 3 was a pain to get running on modern Windows, even with mods. Ironic, then, that a game made for a nearly 20 year old version of Windows runs better on Linux. :odysee_thinking:

Hopefully these come out more consistently in future - no promises, but another review is out

Fallout 3, Bethesda's take on the post-apocalypse in the alternative American future taking place in the remains of the East Coast, in Washington D.C

Take on the role of the Lone Wanderer as the decisions one takes to find their father, takes one on a journey which can have an effect to the future of the region

Progress on the new Steam Deck!

1. Skyrim is now up and running, with Anniversary Edition content installed
2. All my mods from my two current major modded playthroughs are in place and active in Vortex
3. Helper scripts I'd used before to get Vortex onto the thing, and to cleanly swap back and forth between playthroughs, re-installed
4. Custom controller configs I'd set before confirmed to be back in place
5. Morrowind ALSO installed, and its previous save files confirmed access on the cloud; no mods on my Morrowind run, so that's all I need there

Tomorrow I install Oblivion, the small set of mods I was using on it, and also Fallout 3! Stay tuned!

Got Vortex up and running via Lutris on the Bazzite install I did on Potato. So this let me do a few basic mods, mostly the same set of ones I'd used on my first attempt at a modded playthrough on this box, plus a couple more that I discovered later.

Result: I got Skyrim running, but yeaaaaah the performance is _not good_.We're talking 9-15 FPS just wandering around in Whiterun and then outside in the surrounding plains. So NOT an improvement over running Skyrim in Windows 10 on the same box.

What I've learned from this though is that yes I can do a Vortex install on it, and I may get better results from Morrowind and Oblivion. _Maybe_ Fallout 3. We'll see!
